Movie Statistics

Feel free to look at the links above which will give you an idea of the state of the film industry. The documents were created by the Motion Picture Association’s worldwide market research department, a renowned organization known for providing independent unbiased statistics.

From these articles it shows that the number of people going to the movies is increasing in the younger age groups whereas attendance is decreasing for the much older age groups. Although there seems to be a slight decline in overall movie attendance the total number of DVD, VCR. Cable, Pay Cable and TV subscriptions have increased. This may point to the fact that maybe the older age groups are staying at home to watch their favorite films.

The number of repeat frequent movie goers is greatest in the 18-20 age group than in any other age group which means that more younger people are going to the movies and they are going back more frequently per month than any other group.

The vast majority of moviegoers say that when they go out to see a movie, their overall theater experience is time and money well spent. Buying DVD’s or going to the movies is not an either or decision. Forty percent of movie goers plan to buy the last movie they saw, with more than half of them making this decision immediately after seeing the movie.

This movie is going to be an "Independent Film" which means that we are not looking to the major studios to fund the making of this movie. We are looking for investors like you. This way more control will be in our hands.

Did you know that Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ was an independent movie and was probably the most profitable to date. There have been many hugely successful movies which you may not be aware were independent movies. Here are just a few of them: The Blair Witch Project, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Unusual Suspects and Sex, Lies and Videotape.

Below is a table which shows what some independent movies were made for and what they grossed.

Film Budget Budget Gross
sex, lies and videotape $1,000,000 $50,000,000
My Big Fat Greek Wedding $1,000,000+ $220,000,000
The Blair Witch Project $20,000 $150,000,000
The Full Monty $2,000,000 $70,000,000
Sliding Doors $3,000,000 $60,000,000

Other Revenue Channels

So far we have only been talking about movies that have been released in theaters within the US. However, there are many other revenue channels. Take a look at the table above .

In the US alone there are at least eight different media through which to release our film and from which to collect revenues ranging from DVD, Pay-Per-View to Cable and TV. When you consider that these same eight revenue channels can be repeated in each country worldwide the potential for earning great revenues is enormous. On top of this there are also revenues that can be earned from items like music and merchandising.
